CB attends a YIMBY Initiative dinner with Andrew Western MP

Coverdale Barclay’s Edward Poynton attended an insightful dinner last night, hosted by The YIMBY Initiative, and included speakers such as Andrew Western, MP for Stretford and Urmston and an avid YIMBY, and Cllr Dominic Twomey Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council.

Cllr Twomey commented on the critical need for housing in Barking and Dagenham and proudly spoke of his council’s record over the last seven years, including Barking and Dagenham’s new recognition as the ‘YIMBY Council’. Andrew Western gave an insightful and passionate speech on both Labour’s record so far on planning reform, as well as his own well-documented personal support for more housing and development.

Edward’s key takeaway from the event is that planning and housing continues to be a key agenda item of the Labour Party both at central and local government level. The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is a good step forward in reforming the planning system and we look forward to seeing further work in the coming years to support the industry and help housebuilders meet the government’s ambitious targets.
