Hotelier André Balazs launched Chiltern Firehouse in mid-February, located in the heart of London’s Marylebone neighbourhood. The Firehouse, one of the first purpose built fire stations in London, is the first international property in his collection of bespoke, luxury hotels which include the renowned Mercer in New York and the iconic Chateau Marmont in Hollywood, both acclaimed restorations of historic landmark buildings, and celebrated for their unique, creative clientele.
Chiltern Firehouse was built in 1889 by Robert Pearsall, the resident architect for the Metropolitan Board of Works, and is regarded as one of the finest surviving examples of the gothic architectural style used during the pre-war period. André Balazs discovered the building over 5 years ago with friend and London property developer Harry Handelsman, and has carefully retained and reinstated many of the building’s original architectural features revealing lost details such as the facade’s carved Portland stone arches and original brickwork, enhancing the building’s composition and romantic silhouette. The restaurant with large open kitchen is at the heart of Chiltern Firehouse and will by led by Executive Michelin starred Chef, Nuno Mendes.
